pws - 20 Nov 2004 23:54 GMT Just bought the red 1991 with 1.8 liter engine, 1999 head, Garret turbo, etc. It drives very nicely, the power is wonderful. Now I just need some dry weather to enjoy it in.

Mike - 21 Nov 2004 02:38 GMT It's not an M, but I bet the power is great! That didn't take too long. ;-)

I may build a bulletproof engine one day and take it up to 275 hp or so, but I can't really see needing that much. It already has more than I need, plus it handles better than the "M" did. It's a bit more like a go-cart than ever, but that is what I have always wanted out of the car. Less power options, less weight, etc.
If anyone is looking for parts for a 1996 "M" edition, there is about to be a bunch of listings. I will keep you updated once a week or so as I add new items. The "M" was a great car, I drove it daily for over 5 years (70,000 miles) and it never left me stranded and never had to be taken to a mechanic other than for tires and alignments.
Thanks!

If the engine power exceeds the forces the tires can reasonably transmit to the ground in second gear, I doubt it would add any driving enjoyment.

I have been reading the power list, probably the only person on there with such a turbo system and so little knowledge of it, yet. There is one person on there who runs ludicrous amounts of horsepower, and has switched transmissions, clutches, etc. so many times that he has it down to an incredibly quick switch-out time, and he has extra parts ready for when he breaks something. I am not looking for that at all. I grew to enjoy the reliability of my last miata very much. I realize that some reliability must be given up for forced induction, but is seems to me like 210 to 250 hp (at the crank or at the wheels)in a car that weighs barely more than a ton is more than adequate, at least for me. I did not buy the car to drag race.

I may have lucked out, the owner was extremely meticulous and did not want to sell the car but was forced to by an unexpected overseas move. I looked at the extensive list of receipts and most of the work was done in the last 2 years, with the engine upgrade and turbo being finished just this past summer. He will also help me out with any questions via e-mail, I guess that miata owners just tend to be cool people. :-)

Dana H. Myers - 22 Nov 2004 18:50 GMT I recall that the car is equipped with Sumitomo HTR+ tires; how are you liking them? I put a set on my commute car, a '98 Monte Carlo, and so far they seem quite good as an all-around wet/dry tire but I haven't really driven in heavy rain with them yet. Sure, it's a totally different car than a Miata... they were quite inexpensive; a set of 225/60-16s for the Chevy were under $350.
My Miata is wearing AVS ES100s that I like lot so far.
Cheers - Dana

I guess it could look red depending on how the light was shining on it.

It looks like they had *major* problems matching the paint on the parts they repainted. *Horrible* combinations of darkish red, green, and blue.
Why can't people paint Miatas white? The one and only perfectly balanced combination of red, green, and blue.
Grumble. Leon

The color was the only problem, I had to settle for red. ;-) >> [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > David > '92 red I have to admit, red has never been my favorite color, but now that I own one it is starting to grow on me. I never imagined myself in a red miata, but with my determination to buy an M1, and the fact that so many M1's are red, I should have been prepared to find the one I wanted in that color. I still prefer black, dark blue (Starlight Mica Blue forever!) and white for the M1 miata, but I would have bought my red car no matter what color it was, with the possible exception of yellow. (running zig-zag for cover).
