Same thing happened to my '96. Right below the rear of the door.

Perhaps my Mazda Dealer's body shop guys are just incompetent,
but after I had mine fixed and re-painted it was only a few
months before the rust was back.

They're incompentent. Rust does not return if it's REALLY fixed
(eradicated, not covered with bondo.) Just because these were the
Mazda dealer guys doesn't mean they know how to fix rust.

They were a fairly well reputed local body shop before the
Mazda dealer bought them. Apparently things have gone down hill.
