I left my '93 Miata sitting for the winter and neglected to start it
periodically.  Result:  dead battery.  Charging it for about 18 hours on a
Sears charger at low charge (vs. fast charge) had no effect.  The battery's
a Wesco, less than a year old.  My question:  can a battery's charge drain
off so far that it cannot be recharged?

I had the same problem with mine - I recharged it for a 4-5 hours and all
was well.

Confirm you charger is effectively 'charging' - I doubt a 1 year battery
would be dead. Do the lights work, but it won't turn ??

What is the amperage?  It should be 1 or 2.

Yes. Also, a dead battery can be caused by a number of other things. Try
it on the fast charge setting. Verify that the charger is working (does
it have an ammeter on it?)

If the battery still won't hold a charge, it is time for a replacement.

I would not do that with a glass matt battery.

Same thing happened to me last week, tried everything but had to buy a new
battery in the end.

Not the best news for you but at least they are not too expensive
