Hi,
Re: Miata: 1991 with hard top on and window slightly open.
I left the passenger side window open about two inches. A half hour rain
managed to enter the Miata and did the following:
(1) Wet the right side of the seat closest to the passenger side door. That
seems to be thoroughly dry after a few hot days under the sun.
(2) However, the rain also dribbled down, between the seat and the door,
onto the carpet along the edge of the interior closest to the door. I can
feel it wet under the seat but not bad. This is the part where I need some
help understanding the impact.
Worrying about water damaging the body under the carpet, I managed to loosen
the carpet along the door's edge and in front of the seat and I wedged some
material that will allow air to enter the regions that otherwise would never
get vented, in case the rain seeped in there. The carpet seems to be made of
rug ontop of a solid vinyl base. It looks as though Mazda has addressed the
rain problem by making the carpet have a self protective bottom where the
rain can eventually dry itself on the surface of the carpet and not enter
the body underneath.
Right now, the sun heats up the interior of the Miata to well over 100
degrees every day and I'm hoping that my makeshift tubes and sticks are
venting underneath the carpet. I don't want to remove the seat unless its
absolutely necessary.
Any information about this will be much appreciated?

Ragtops occasionally get wet and need to be dried out. Live with it.
Things should dry out quickly if the car is parked in a sunny spot and the
windows open or the top down.

Take the hardtop off and aim a fan into the interior. Let it run all
night.

My miata developed a leak on the passenger's side upper window rubber
which leaks water onto the seat and sometimes the floor on that side. I
think the car doesn't like my gf, which I can't blame her (the car)
for. The only time I seem to get to spend with the car is driving to
work everyday and somehow my car-improvement budget got squashed into
barely enough for gas. She keeps up this "let's trade it" BS which her
record is 0-1 resulting in a POS ford windstar that I can't get rid of
and costs too damn much after trading a near-bulletproof saturn sl,
which I got less than jack for.
01 windstar w/ free girlfriend for sale - $500
01 windstar only - $13,500
/end venting.
Anyway, it should dry just fine. Removing the seat is unecessary, but
if you want to do that, it's very simple, four bolts and one wire
connection. I take it out about every other year to vacuum all the crap
that gets under there out and clean the seat, as I occasionally spill
coffee or something on the seat.
I could fix the leak by replacing the rubber pieces, but I'm not too
concerned with that.

He he he... If she ever suggests trading in your miata I hope you realise
where your loyalties should lie?!

I haven't traded it and don't plan to. The only way she'll get me to
leave that car is by prying the keys out of my cold dead hands.

Lose the girlfriend. Accidentally or something. She's not good for your
head.
My SO used to be like that, but then we got a MSV (Subaru Forester
All-Wheel Drive Vee-Hickle) and moved to the country where the twisted
roads are. He renovated his brain, and now all is copacetic (sp?). I'm
feeling a lot better too, as a consequence.
