This isn't my car, and I don't know about the seals being as fresh as
new, but it is still pretty cool to look at. It has averaged about 23
miles a year so far since 1991.
He is probably dreaming at $18K, but it is over $12K right now.

That makes allot of sense?!.!?
I would say though that a car with low miles would be allot better than a
car like this with basically NO miles. Lots of problems from sitting. Maybe
that is what Armon was aluding to but I don't see where it would make any
sense to pay big bucks for it. Actually, I've never figured out why the
BRG's have seemingly kept thier value probably better than any other color.
Almost allways seems like they have crazy high asking prices. Not sure if
they are getting them but, consistantly high. Hey, I'm all for it, props to
the owners, just don't understand it based on the production #'s if I recall
correctly they built quite a few.

You are absolutely correct, there is no way that the car is going to be
"as good as new", unless maybe they had it stored in some sort of
airless, nitrogen gas environment or something like that. There are
plenty of rubber seals to dry out and cause problems on a car that sits
for 15 years.
I just thought that the pictures were cool to look at. It at least rates
as the cleanest looking, non-restored 1991 model that I have seen in the
last 10 years or so. :-)

325 miles for a '91??? How ridiculous! Aren't cars meant to be driven? I
clocked 8 times that amount in a single road-trip!
THAT'S how you enjoy a Miata!

2600 miles, that's not bad. I have done about half of that in one road
trip unless you count the return driving a few days later, then we would
be about equal on total miles driven in a single trip.
Still, I don't think anyone is going to beat Leon's Florida to Alaska
and back road trip as far as total miles driven on a single miata road trip.
The owner of this car probably thought that it was going to become
collectible one day, since the miata had just been introduced recently.
It does seem like he or she would have realized before now that this is
not the case with the miata, there were simply too many of them made,
limited edition or not. This car was definitely made to be driven rather
than invested in.

My '91 BRG which I bought at Kelly Blue Book Wholesale prices more than 5
years ago, just turned 183,000 on the clock. Its got a few dings and some
non-original parts but still runs great and gives me a smile on my face
every time I drive it (which it every day to work and any where else I need
to go). That's how to enjoy a Miata!

I particularly enjoyed this quote...
"How many years from now till this car is worth a $100,000 at a Barrett-Jackson
auction ????????????????????????????????????????"
How many years? Uh... What is "never", Alex?
And yet some schmuck is going to buy it assuming that in five years they'll be
able to sell it and retire.

Kelly Blue Book shows $6000 tops.

Odometer rollback? I've always wondered how my 1st hand 84k Honda drives
much better than a 2nd hand Certified 40k Honda I once brought from a big
dealer. I've always suspect there's a way for the big guys to roll the
odometers back. Maybe it's just me...

It would be an easy enough thing to do by replacing the entire gauge
assembly, including the odometer, with either a new one or one from a
car that was wrecked with low miles, but I don't think that is the case
here. The visual difference between thousands of miles and 325 miles
should be obvious no matter how well the car was taken care of.
There is also Carfax to consider, which is not perfect, but is making it
easier for people to see the true mileage and major wreck history on
many cars.

Carfax might help in detecting odometer roll back.

Here's something else that baffles me about that auction...
He states right in the auction body that the reserve is $18k. Yet there are
seven bids for less than that amount. If you're not going to bid at least the
reserve amount, why bid at all? You're not going to win it.

You won't win the auction, but you might get the car. I've
known of sellers who (after the auction) sent an e-mail to the
highest bidder and offered to sell the item at that bid price.

Yes, I have done that myself as a seller, though I don't usually set a
reserve on anything that I sell on Ebay.
Speaking of Ebay, I have almost finished parting out a white 1991 miata
and am about to finally tear into my wrecked '96M edition, so I will
have a lot of M1 miata parts, both stock and aftermarket for auction. I
won't spam the group with daily listings or anything like that, but once
I have a number of items up I will post a link to my auctions.

He might smarten up and change his mind on the reserve.
