a/c has been leaking freon for a couple of years.  started out 15 months
between refills, now down to 3 months.  mechanic used dye, says evaporator
needs replacing.  cost $837.  is that a fair price? is something else
likely to go out once I replace the evaporator?  car only has 28,000 miles
on it.  thanks for your help.

Once the Evaporator is out, it may be repairable. It just depends on where
the leak is, the overall condition of the evaporator, and the ability of
your local A/C shops.
