I have never seen it mentioned here but my 1.8 has a whine apparently
from the transmission at low revs mainly in the lower gears particularly
when the throttle is feathered.

About 25,000 recorded miles.

Anyone got a similar noise or know what it is?

Thanks for any help

Lack of sound insulation in the transmission tunnel. All transmissions
whine, you just couldn't hear it in other cars. Miatas are noisy.

True. However, one might suspect that the tolerances might be a little
loose. You know, the old adage, build it just good enough--.
