It will probably be a while before reviews of the '07 MX-5 start showing
up but I suspect that they will be virtually identical to the '06.
Based on my experience with my new '06 sport model the standard halogen
headlights are just fine and I suspect that the upscale optional HID
headlights would be excellent. The beam top is very flat and that might
take some getting used to.
I traded my 1991 Miata in on the 2006 and it still had the original
factory vinyl top on it -- no cracks and no leaks but I did park it in
the garage virtually every night of its life so it had less UV exposure
than one which was parked outside constantly. I did replace the vinyl
rear window back in 1997 but that was only because the zipper was
failing. But the new MX-5s have glass rear windows and no zippers so
that is neither here nor there. In my experience Mazda doesn't cut
corners on their stock tops. The upscale touring model comes with cloth
rather than vinyl and they should be even more durable.
The old top was easy enough to put up and down without exiting the
vehicle if one had any upper body strength at all -- I managed it not
long after surgery to rebuild my rotator cuff and had few problems. The
new top is far easier than the old and takes literally seconds to put up
or down. Rolling the windows up and down (required for the change) takes
as long as the actual top movement in my experience.
I was able to get my dealer down somewhat below the sticker price but
that isn't much of a trick on any vehicle I know of. Even if they gave
it to you at "invoice" price they'd still be making money via the dealer
holdback. I got a list of the dealer's actual costs from Consumers
Report for each model and option and bargained from there, not trying at
any stage to screw them down to no profit (like they'd let me do that!)
but keeping in mind that if this dealer didn't want to deal at this
moment there were other dealers and other moments.
My 1991 Miata was the best and most reliable vehicle I've ever owned and
the 2006 MX-5 is superior mechanically and structurally and I expect it
to be just as reliable.

Thanks John!
After posting, I got behind the wheel of an 06 model and took a test drive.
Apparently, the 07s are not out yet. I can see why the car critics love it.
I didn't see anywhere if it burns regular gas or the higher octane fuel.

My guess would be around August maybe?

Premium, 91 Octane or greater according to the website.
You didn't really think they were going to let you get by with that
cheap stuff, did you? <G>
