I'm needing a black tonneau cover for an M1...the OEM one that covers the
entire cockpit and doesn't have the headrest pockets.  Anyone have one in
good shape laying around gathering dust they could part with?  I don't need
any of the hardware.  Don't ask what happened to the one I
had..............Thanks.

Oh, go on, tell us what happened to the one you had! <G>

I have a black tonneau cover WITH the headrest pockets that I use but
I'm wondering if maybe a cockpit cover would have been a better choice,
have you investigated them?

There's a couple I've thought about:

http://www.crazyred.com/cri/pages/covers.html or similar types and:

http://www.capoptop.com/

Just a thought....

I have one similar to the CrazyRed one and it's great in the summer -
particularly for keeping bird poop off the seats!  I've had it about 8
years or so and except for having to replace some of the elastic, it's
been maintenance-free.  And it fit both my '90 and the '04 with
rollbars.

Did you disconnect the broadcast module?  The one that broadcasts all
day and all night, "ATTENTION PIDGEONS, FREE TOILET HERE!"  They come
with every Miata and I can't find out how to disable mine.

You mean there's a disconnect?  I'm on my second Miata and I haven't
found it yet!

It's an unfortunate side-effect of the BabeMagnet(tm). Best just live
with it.

Oh, I do.  It's like the old song says,

Fish gotta swim,
Birds gotta fly,
Pidgeons gotta poop
On my car, I wish they'd DIE!

Not _every_ Miata -- just the white ones.

That's why the white color never fades...

When I looked in and saw all the responses, I figured I had hit the jackpot.
Looks like I just hit the birdpoop pot.
I thought about the cockpit cover, but I show the car and it shows nicely
with the tonneau on.  I may have to go with the one with the pockets, but
it's not my first choice.

Bird poop is MUCH more interesting than tonneau covers.

It's easier to put on and take off.

Ingrate.

It should only cost a few bucks to have an upholstery shop cut and
stitch to get rid of the pockets for you.

The pigeons, of course, go with the color of the *interior*.  Can't
say I ever had any trouble with Bozo's black interior.  And Bozo
has been standing top-down below birds as long as any Miata.  :)

I have a black interior but I never leave the car open, the tonneau is
on or the top is up.  Both the black tonneau cover and the black top
have pidgeon poop on them but they do hit the white paint more than
they do the black material.

Picture the white car from aloft as a target; the black part is the
bullseye. Pigeons, not being all that skilled at anything except
reproduction, are naturally going to score more 4s than 10s.

Now seagulls are another matter... I was camping on the Superior north shore
and there was a gull standing on the path about 100 yds away from my camp. I
shooed him away as I walked up, and he flew directly to my camp and nailed
my 2-man tent from about 30 feet.

All those birds are pikers compared to the volume and odor from a loon. One
bird's expulsion was enough to cover the boat from stem to stern.

Serious poopers are the Pelicans.  I've seen a Mexican fishing boat get
white washed with one flip of a tail.....

The old expression "When pigs fly.." strikes terror into the hearts of
all convertible owners... ;-)

There's strength in numbers. A couple of years ago, we were playing tennis on a
clay court when it was carpet-bombed by a large flock of Canadian geese headed
south for the winter.

And elsewhere in the world of poop, explosive equine diarrhea can be a great
source of merriment. Never park your Miata in the impact zone.
