I  experienced a CEL about two months ago that I noted here
on the NG. It was a EGR failure. Took it to be fixed and
when I finally got it back (two hours later), the CEL was
out and  it passed the State Safety Inspection. I thought
all was well and had good thought concerning my local
dealer.
For the past couple weeks I've heard a rattle somewhere on
the passenger side. I kept thinking it was the passenger
seat I finally eliminated that seat but still couldn't find
it....till today. I had looked in the trunk many times but
never noticed anything. Today....thye battery had slid
sideways and the carpet cover was not in place. Unpon a
little more inspection, I find all the brackets ment to hold
the battery in place were inside that pathetic little spare
tire. Soooo...the noise was the battery bouncing and sliding
around.
I called the dealer today and they apologized and scheduled
me in to re-fix the battery hold down.
Damn...we pay these idiots $80 and hour for this
incompetence????

At least your dealer admitted to the screwup, apologized and said they'd
make it right.  Many dealers would immediately go on the defensive and
say "we wouldn't have needed to disconnect the battery".

Here in Southern Illinois(USA), I go to Awfulberg (Auffenberg), where the
shop fee is $93 an hour!

What I understand the problem is, is that dealer service departments
are allocated too little time by their factories to perform warranty
repair items.   To make up for the actual time needed to do the
warranty work, dealers raise the hourly rates.  Which of course
reduces their competitiveness for nonwarranty work.

To reply to me, the word Miata must be in the subject.
