We have a '97 Protege with 105k miles that began making a rubbing noise in
the rear whenever taking a sharp turn.  The noise does not correspond
to braking.  Any ideas?

I would look for a worn wheel bearing or if it is all wheel drive with rear
CV joints looks closely at the boots for cuts/tears which could indicate a
worn out joint.
