Would a faulty 02 sensor in bay one make the car die when you turn the air on
during idle?

Is the "check engine" light on?

From my experience:  the answer to  your question is no. Perhaps there is
something else that is related to the make and year of your car that I don't
know. By the way, what is the make and year of your car?
