Hi all, glad I found you.
I just bought a 1977 450SLC with 150K on her, solid but kind of a
basket case.

No major repairs needed but the ignition system is in need of some
attention (a little bumpy at idle, and she stutters with very slight
pressure on gas pedal.)  After that, zoom...
The gas milage isnt bad compared to my 2k5 jag either!

What does concern me is that none of the vacuum accessories, (door
locks, seat locks etc.) work nor do the cruise or A/C.
Zero response when I operate the controls, (a/c is the manual type with
levers and knobs and heat is fine).  The fuses are all in place.  I'm
wondering if the vacuum systems have been toyed with or if i'm dealing
with many seperate issues.

This is my first experience with a Benz.  she was driven daily by the
last owner but had obviously been left sitting for some time before
that.

If anyone could assist me in checking, repairing and replacing these
vacuum systems and what valves and sensors i should immediately replace
would be greatly appreciated.

I'm driving her now and plan to take my time learning and restoring her
to A-1.
Will employ the use of a mechanic for jobs i shouldn't take on, but for
fun and cash sakes I want to do what I can myself.
Do intend on spending a bit though.  Why not, she was only a grand.

My first concerns are the tune up and A/c..(gotta have a/c by summer!!)
Then door locks etc, followed by a new interior and finally paint.

Love to hear any tips, who should work on and paint her, (will do
interior myself) and what to expect...
I haven't been this jazzed about a car since i was 16!

Thanks All,
Robert

The vacuum system isn't to hard to fix. Get yourself a Mity Vac vacuum
tester with gauge (get the metal one NOT the plastic ones which is
more or less disposable) and the factory manuals.

You're probably going to find one of the vacum actuators leaks, you
simly replace the leaky one(s) then suddenly all the vacuum stuff works.

99% of the time this is the problem.
