I would double check the fuse. The fuses we have in our car is notorious for
looking okay when it is not. So take them out and inspect.
Becker radio is nothing good to save so you are better off changing it to
something you like.

http://www.crutchfield.com can give you a list of stuff that'll fit.
It's a standard size, but you might as well make sure.

The MB radio around 80s has only two channels, left and right. The
front/rear is controlled by the fader on the center console. I am not
sure how much effort it takes to change the setting to fit modern off
the shelf unit.
I have a W201 and a W126. Both were already fitted with 4 channels when
I bought them. The W201 has 4 brand new pairs of wires running to the
speakers. I estimate that is 4 extra hours job if you need to do so
(under carpet, behind dash, etc.).
The W126 is kind of interesting. There is no new wires, but some cut
and connect. I was able to retrofit back to Becker without much
physical change (though it took a while to figure out what wires mean
what). Therefore, I suspect the wiring may support both 2 and 4 channels.
Anyway, take a look first before committing to any change.
