Most probably corrosion at the double pump/filter connection
aluminium/brass with alu fittings.
For cars older than 15 years I recommend replacing both pump and filter
together with the matalic cage. You get an impression then of the state
of rest of the assembly there.
Depending on the fuel history (lead, unleaded, additives) over the years
in your country it may be nessecary to replace all the rubber parts too.

Hmm, makes you wonder what keeps my 20 yo car going. Only rubber
casualties so far are the tires and one broken orthopaedic seat valve.
Who needs that anyway.
