Bought a used 2001 E320 some months ago and just took it to Jiffy Lube for
the first oil change.  I asked them first if they could roll back the
instrument panel service notification and they said no, it has to be done by
the dealer.  We're talking about $400 for an oil change and fluids service
at the dealer.

So I took it to a popular MBZ service shop and to my surprise and delight
they knew how to re-set the service notification just by pressing buttons on
the dashboard.

I bet most of you guys on this ng knew this already, but for the few (like
me) who didn't, think twice about paying dealer rates for routine service.

That procedure is explained in the owner's manual. The big white book. We
have the same car and I just did the oil change too.

If you don't have the owner's manual, I'd suggest you buy one from MB.

You know... the $400 may seems like alot of money for oil change and some
fluids... but it is actuall alot more than that. Like Service B, also
includes changing air filter, cabin filters, check alot of components like a
thorough inspection.

There are alot of things to check and change so sometime it is more
convenient to let them do it once in a while... while you can take care of
the more common Service A.

There is also brake fluid flush... coolant system flush at 30,000
miles...umm... charcoal cabin filter at 45,000  miles...and so on.
