82 240 D valve cover gasket torque spec.

Is there one, or a specified tightening routine? I replaced it and am
still leaking, but don't want to go too tight.

11 ft lbs is the specification for the valve cover nuts

If you did not roll the gasket under..... then the valve cover is warped
from over tightning it. Take the valve cover off and get a flat file. A big
bastard. File down the bottom of each bolt hole. They are separate from the
gasket surface. File each one down flat, not a lot. Reinstall using the old
vc gasket if it is OK. The cover will now fit tighter.
