Thank You for all of your previous responses to my posts.

I like driving the 230CE but the RPM's are high at 3000@ 60 MPH.  I am
preparing to put a 5-speed transmission from a W201 190D in to help out. I
expect it to be a bolt-up job. The only problem is finding a 5-speed
shifter/selector assembly. It needs to have reverse in the back right
position.

Does anybody know where I can find one?

Thanks, Scott

I wrote this group once in regard to replacing my 4sp manual in my 300tdt
with a 5 speed and had the reply such as:

"the 5speed is the same ratio in 5th as the 4 speed is in 4th.  Only the
range between top gears is spread differently"...

Sooo..  I put 16" wheeels with high profile tires on rear of my td and it is
like a 5th gear..  Put the speedo off by about 8 mph..   57=65..  my tach is
not working, so don't know exact rpms..   I feel I still could use a higher
gear though..

Anyone ever adapt a Volvo 4/w/OD or any other combo to a 300 turbo block??

I'm sure I could find you a shifter off an 190 5spd..  would that be the
right one for you??

How does having the larger tires affect your acceleration?

Where does the quote that you gave come from? I'm pretty sure that my five
speed which was for a '84 w201 190D,  has less than 1:1 high gear.

The shifter that I need has reverse to the right and back. Both the earlier
190D(&E eight valve) and W123 with five speed should work.

My 300TDT is totally fine with the larger wheels and tires..  I really
couldn't notice any lack of acceleration after installation.  I would like a
higher ratio still as the power is very adequate.

I suppose the professionals are taking the week-end off..  IIRC  one of them
gave me the information..  mind you, this is for a 5 sp that will bolt up to
the 300 block..  They also told me the 190 5sp couldn't be adapted but I
didn't inquire of the final ratio of the 190 5sp.    -Gar
