The Smart is made for town. If town is slippery its a good idea to let
someone go in front of your car with a bag of salt for de-icing.
Even if you have good winter tires and snow chains and you drive manual
you should take another car with bigger tires if the Smarts bottom is in
danger sitting upon the snow.
Because you have virtually no security buffer your speed should not
exceed the 5-8 mph a human body is able to absorb in the hard collison mode.
The manual handling in snow is like the old VW buggy with rear wheel
rear motor drive. After some experience you may handle it with gas and
brake without using the steering wheel. You can even turn on the point.
The buggy had the rear wheel handbrake for even more fun.

The Smart is stronger than that getting 3 and 4 passenger protection stars
in the Euro Ncap tests

Any Mercedes is great in snow provided you give them the right shoe to wear.
That is Snow Tire... or Nokian All Weather NR tires.
All season tires are just junk in snow after first year. I don't care what
brand it is.
