What type of special service is recommended for a 1986 300E with 100,00
miles?

Nothing really... just check condition of belt... see if anything is
leaking... If the car runs well, without clunking, wierd driving symptoms...
engine sweet... then you are good to go.

Philosophy to go by is if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If the car is new to you,  I recommend flushing and filling the cooling
system with your favorite flavor, replacing the plugs, and oil and
filter.

Carefully inspect all of the above while doing so(ie does old coolant
look ok?  how about old plugs?).

Also listen to the front of engine accessories and examine the belt.

If you have owned the car for a while,  then nothing special is required.

I'd flush the brake lines and cooling system.
