82 300sd drive shaft

   has anyone ever replaced the universal joint on the drive shaft on a
82 300sd.was it a fun job or fairly straight forward.Does this universal
tend to last a long time?

You need a new driveshaft, can't you get one from a pick and pull?

While it's pgysically possible to replace the u-joint it wasn't meant
to be replaced and you'll most likely have toruble finding a replacement
U-joint and owuld have to do some serious and very accurate machining to
actually do it. You need a good used drive shaft from a scrapyard;
make sure if it was broken into the two sections that it was
accuratly marked as they're balanced as a unit.

They last a long time... plus there is no serviceble part on the
driveshaft... it requires tremendous work and balancing. Do you have
vibrations? If so, check your flex discs instead.... they are the most
common problem.
