I've had this car for about 1.5 years, so I guess its time for
a few problems to start showing up. After all it is 32 years old.
The engine runs fine then, very suddenly, seems like its only hitting
on 4 cylenders. The problem lasts between 1 to 5 seconds and goes
as suddenly as it appears. Its only happened three time so far, but I'm
concerned about driving it until I get this problem figured out.
Since the problem comes and goes so suddenly, I suspect its an
electrical problem of some sort. Ignition or fuel injection?
If anyone else here has had this problem, I'd like to hear what you
found. Thanks!

Wild assed guess: trigger points.

I would replace all ignition cables (look for cat teeth) and plug
holders (check resistance). They dont last that long.
Next replace the distributor cap an finger (check resistance of finger).
Finaly there are ignition coil and capacitor. I assume the 73' cars have
not yet transistor igniton.

They really do have some sort of transistorized ignition box. It helps the
points. Inside the box are several electrical components that can fail due
to corrosion or old age. That could cause the intermittent problems
bescribed. These boxes are really expensive new. You can try to find one
second-hand, or try to replace the electrical components inside the box if
you understand what they are.
If that doesn't help, it's also possible to rewire the ignition so that you
donot use the box. Just wire the ignition like any standard points ignition.
In that case, you will be chanching points very often, because they will
wear much faster.
Hope this helps,
Paul
