Hi,
Any way to access the truck of an 1987 300E when the truck won't open. I
see a 6" diamter
plastic plate behind the back seat - does that give access to the trunk.
Want to avoid drilling out the
lock?
Thanks

No, the fuel tank stands up in the trunk behind the seat.

Did you try pushing down on the trunk lid while turning the key?
Just a thought.

Why won't the trunk open? Does the key turn?
Sometimes this time of year the lock gets all messed up with salt,
just squirt lots of alcohol in there (even hand cleaning gel on
the key has beenknown to work). It is supposed tobe lubricated with
spray graphite.
In a pinch spray silicone will free it up (but not for long).

Have you verified that the trunk hasn't been manually locked with the Master
key?
If I remember correctly (1991 300E), the Master key is rectangular and the
Valet key is oval. If someone locked the trunk with the Master key, only
the Master key will open it up. The Valet key will open the driver's door
and start the car, but won't open the glove compartment or the trunk, if
they were previously locked with the Master key. Likewise, the remote trunk
release on the console appears not to work if the trunk has been manually
locked with the Master key.
