DaimlerChrysler Unveils "Bionic" Car

Inspired by the look of the Boxfish, this ultraefficient diesel car can
get up to 70 mph according to DaimlerChrysler.

WASHINGTON - DaimlerChrysler, the German-American automaker, on
Tuesday unveiled a four-passenger diesel concept car the company says
can meet tough new U.S. emissions standards while delivering fuel
economy of up to 70 miles per gallon.

The so-called Bionic Car is powered by a 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter,
four-cylinder turbodiesel fitted with a particulate filter and a new
device DaimlerChrysler calls a "selective catalytic reduction" system
designed to help clean up exhaust emissions.

The company said the design inspiration for the Bionic Car was a fish
called the boxfish - also the development code name for the concept
vehicle.

The Bionic Car was the focal point of a DaimlerChrysler technology
demonstration here called Impact on America.

What this means to you: If you're convinced that hybrids are the only
hope for the future, DaimlerChrysler wants to prove that diesels aren't
dead just yet.

The article has a really stupid conclusion also, as it seems to
suggests that diesels and hybrids are mutually exclusive, which they
are definitely not.

Look for diesel hybrids coming soon to a dealer near you.

Nahhhh! I do not see any point at all for any type of hybrids, with the fuel mileage that diesel get. Hybrid technology is an
unnecessary complication that is just not worth it. Though if it makes people more accepting of diesels then I guess why not...

Were in a Mercedes forum and you are suggesting that they shouldn't go
for unnecessary complication?

Mercedes cars are all about unnecessary complication!

DB is planning on Diesel hybrids FYI.
