Mass Air Flow Meter

Stuttering problem occurs under load, local independent specialist diagnosed
MAF.

On inspection it's covered in oil, no wonder it can't meter the air flow.
Where did the oil come from?  It looks like we found a collapsed hose
between the rocker cover and dipstick pipe so the part is ordered and
hopefully that will stop the oil blowing past the MAF.

Dealer charges £250(ish) for the MAF, so my question is:
Does anyone know whether it can be cleaned without turning into an expensive
paperweight?

Thanks

Rob

Given that this is a Kompressor or super charged engine I'd suspect the
oil comes from the Kompressor and that problem must be fixed before
anything is done about the MAFM, otherwise a new MAFM will quickly be
ruined as well.

There's little downside risk to cleaning a MAFM for the alternative is
to replace it. Cleaning means very very carefully wiping out the oil
NEVER touching the hot wire element. Suggest using a spray designed to
clean electronic components and don't expect success, but it may work.

Suggest you shop for the MAFM on line to save up to 40% of dealer price.

Thanks, that's roughly what I figured.

It looks like the damaged hose is designed to restrict the oil from passing
into and through the Kompressor so we'll see whether or not this works
before moving on.  Apparently there was a mod from MB regarding this.

You've spotted my logic for the MAFM, since I need a new one anyway there's
really no risk at all in cleaning the old one.  I wasn't sure about the
expected success rate, now I'm sure I shouldn't be sure about it but I guess
nothing ventured etc.

I have some spray as you suggest, I'll give it a try after the oil is fixed.
Thanks for your help.
