Ok, I accept that this says the crime rate is relatively high by the
journalist's standards, but it makes no comparisons with countries like the
UK or the USA. If you read the headlines in some UK papers you might also
think you would need a submachine gun on the streets of London. Maybe you
do...:-)
All the crimes mentioned except kidnapping are found in the UK.
I am not saying crime is particularly low, just that it isn't the "Malaysia
is one of the top kidnapping/extortion capitals of the world".
Got any figures that put things in context? And what how is a
gun-on-the-street relevant in extortion cases (unless you're a bank owner,
e.g.)?

Of course I am speaking for myself here, but if someone tries to kidnap
me,I'm shooting all of them unless they are beautiful women
wanting me to well....you know ! ;-) Note;as long as it's
hetero-related.
Extortion,well maybe I should have said ransom(same difference)as far
as kidnapping is concerned.

I read last week in a local (Northern California) paper, "The Mercury
News" that Mexico City is the top kidnapping/extortion capital of the
world. If true, the title is nothing to be proud of.

Ah yes, the really internationally-well-informed provincial press of the
USA...
At least this is not the paper that reported that the Quandts owned a
majority of the BMW shares. That was the San Diego Metropolitan, Jun 2003:

(For the record, they own 46.6%.)
