1987 190e. Drivers door stuck fully open because of binding in arm which
holds door in full or mid open position. Anyone else had this problem? Do I
need to take door apart to fix?

Thanks

No, remove the inner door covering and replace the part.

I was afraid of that. That was what I meant by taking the door apart. This
is not my car and is in excellent (9/10) conditiion. Method of removing the
inner door panel on the 190 (I have removed lots of them on other cars) is
not really obvious to me. There is a screw near the latch but no other
clearcut way to remove inner trim pieces? I don't want to damage them by
prying.

Its easy. Two screws under the armrest. Two screws at the chrome piece
hiding the lock. One screw in the cage of the door opener under the
plastic piece. The crank of the window  is fixed with its cover: Push it
to the axis. Remove the locking knob at the window if it is of the old
kind with a head, its a screw. The cover is fixed with about 8 plastic
clamps at sides and bottom. Just coutiously pull at the edges from the
frame. You may use a plastic wedge. Finally you have to lift the cover
out of the slot along the window upwards. The frame is closed against
water with a plastic plane.

Thank you for the response. I was wrong. This is a 1985 with power windows.
There is one screw at the plastic piece holding the lock. No window crank No
visible screws holding the arm rest. Only a single 10mm bolt behind a black
plastic facade where the upper part of the arm rest attaches near the inner
lever for opening the door. When I remove this bold the upper part of the
arm rest is then loose but the bottom part does not then rotate and release
the way it did on my Volvo. Inner part of the door is very smooth with no
other visible screws or easily removable trim pieces. What am I missing?

Look at the armrest from below. The main part must have two deep holes
with screws at the bottom. Otherwise you could not slam the door.

3) Next slide the interior door release unit towards the outside of the
