Hi all.... I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on a recent
problem I've encountered with my 190E.... it is a 1991 model UK car...1800cc
engine (injected).

Whilst driving this afternoon, I noticed a substantial change in throttle
response.... it feels as though there is no tension in the throttle cable
and the motor revs very highly and freely once over about 2500 RPM.... it's
now difficult to hold at a particular speed - as soon as 2500ish RPM is on
the clock, it just takes off until I come off the throttle completely.

I have removed the airbox and checked the throttle cable assembly, and as
far as I can see, it all looks ok, but there does seem to be a lot less
resistance when manually opening the throttle (by hand) Spring is intact and
in good order as far as I can tell, and there is no obvious damage....

Just wondering if anyone can offer some pointers / head me in the right
direction....

Many thanks in advance,

Dave

Hi Dave are you checking the small spring on the side of manifold on
the accelerator lever near the cable .If so this is not the correct
spring the actual throttle spring is located under the manifold fitted
to support bracket to throttle body linkage.

Ah....I was checking the spring on the side....is it gonna be a manifold off
job then?
thanks for the reply,
Dave

Allright, I give up!  My accelerator is also temperamental.... on/off
syndrom, difficult to get smooth accel or holding speed.  I do see the
longish spring on the side of the air mass sensor (intake manifold) but
canot localized the 'actual' spring for the accelerator pedal.  I removed
the airfilter housing and did notice the at the rear and kind of underneath
the air mass sensor there was a lever that moved in response to throttle and
had nothing connected to it but there are a roundish  'nipple' that appears
to hold the 'cup' end of another lever, or possibly a spring....  I don't
know.... am I at the right place.... can't see a spring anywhere.

cheers, guenter

please help

Guenter,
I too had some difficulty locating the spring... it is not easy to get to!
It is underneath the throttle body / air mass sensor. If you have the air
filter housing off, you can see the spring if you shine a torch under the
right side of the throttle body - near the linkage  that has the "nipple" on
it.... it is accessible from the front, if you have very bendy and skinny
arms! I admit, I gave up in the end and let a friend who owed me a favor do
the job for me!

Good luck... Dave
