I'm hoping maybe someone can help me. I have a 1982 500SL (grey market)
with brake issues. One of the vacuum hoses coming from the brake
booster keeps popping itself out. Everytime this happens, It is almost
like I lost all the power assist to the brakes and the car is difficult
to stop. This vacuum hose is maybe 7" long and connects to a metal tube
on the other end. That's the best way I can describe it. Has anyone
else ever encountered this problem? I tried bleeding the brakes, but
that didn't seem to work. Maybe I didn't do a good enough job. Also, if
it makes a difference, this car does have ABS and amazingly, it works.

You just need to change out that vacuum hose and make sure it will not pop
out again. Don't just use rubber vacuum hose... they are supposed to be
rigid plastic-type hose.

It seems to be a pretty rigid hose, definitely not very flexible.  I
don't think it is rubber.  I've slid it back on the metal tube several
times and it was difficult to get it to bend enough to get it on there.
Maybe the one that is on there isn't long enough?

I see the problem now... Well, it should not have come out at all... so for
your safety sake... buy a new one from dealer. It seems to me that hose is
original... and sooner or later, they will break... probably at the
checkvalve.

The dealer will order one for you... will come with the entire piece... all
metal fittings. It is not just the hose.

Okay thanks, I'll look into buying a new one.  It wouldn't surprise me
if it were the original hose.

I don't suppose someone would know what the name of this part is, or
even better, the part number?
Tiger - 07 Jun 2006 14:44 GMT
Just take your VIN number to the dealer part counter and say brake vacuum
hose assembly.
PaulG - 08 Jun 2006 03:52 GMT
Okay, that'll work.  Thanks again.
