Is it indeed true that the DOHC 6cyl in my 280CE requires valve
adjustment periodically? Thank you.

Yes it's true, valve adjustment every 15K to 20K miles. This is a job
that an owner can do; it needs moderate skill and some patience. Done
when engine is cold.
