I saw the new S 550 today and I have to say it is the nicest
Mercedes in years. Beautiful lines and a very elegant interior.
The cheap plastic look of the recent S class is gone - thank goodness.
I am afraid the new Lexus LS470 that is supposed to be the Mercedes
killer is going to be just the BMW killer. Glad to see Mercedes is
back in gear. Hope the reliability is back also as it is a complicated
car. Personally for simplicity I would prefer steel springs to air
springs. Otherwise great new car

I was not much impressed when I drove a S350 (W221) last October.
Yes, better than the predecessor, but especially on the outside
the design is boring and uninspiring, e.g. headlights and the
ugly wheel wells - and the trunk lid always looks like not
being closed correctly, the gap to the bumper looks weird.

But still not up-par to the price of the vehicle.

LS470? Don't you mean the LS460??

Yes, there is hope the next S-Class (W222 or whatever) will
continue the line of fintail, W108/109 and W126.

I beg to differ - better then the predecessor, but still much
room for improvement.

Lexus should be LS460 as you say. A little typo
gave the engine and extra 100cc

Thanks for clarifying, I was asking because I thought
I might have missed a LS470.
