I have a 1987 W126 with 60K miles and I am a little concerned. The
temperature gauge indicates about halfway between 80 and 100 which I
imagine is 90. My previous experience with MBs was that the gauge never
got in that range unless sitting in traffic on a hot day.  Weather has
not been hot (UK) and the traffic has been moving. Am I worrying
unnecessarily?
Oil and Water levels are as they should be and engines runs nicely.
Any advice would be welcome

Change belts and thermostat, its time anyway.

You might check the radiator for any little leaks and (as it's a bit on
the older side) look into the possibility that the radiator has some of
it's interior tubes plugged up...K

You need a new radiator.  The temperature will only get higher and higher as
time goes by.  This happened on my 1990 126; after wasting money on a
thermostat, water pump, temperature sender and fan clutch, it turned out to
be a bad radiator.  Check out the following link for more info:
