Is it possible for the corner store people to make you a duplicate key
for the ignition/door key for an older model benz? 1987 260E to be
exact. How much do the dealers usually charge if you have to go there
and get a nother key made (worse case scenario)

The mom and pop cornerstore people probably don't have the blanks or
specialized cutting equipment. A genuine locksmith that specializes in cars
can probably help you.

Key duplicate at dealer is around $15 each. They need your proof of
ownership and DL. They will dupe the key to their computer... no old key
needed. It does not make sense to dupe and old worn key.

The dealer does not cut them. The keys come from the Ft Worth key and lock depot.

Yes, that's why it takes a day or two to get it.

No. They can neother get nor cut the right blank. Dealer only. They'll
need to see your registration as they will only do this for the verified
car owner.

There are non-dealership locksmiths that can duplicate the key from an
original, however the blanks they use tend to be of a softer alloy and wear
quickly in the tumbler mechanism.
Keys cut by MBUSA are available from the Baltimore, MD and TX facilities,
and the price varies by dealership, some charging as much as $50 for a new,
pre alarm, key.
