I just went on a 400 mile trip.  My ol friend started to stutter a bit
aroun 60-70 mph.  back off,  55 say, and run fine.   I pulled off the
road and took my air cleaner duct off in case it was n't getting enough
air.  Got back on the road, ran fine, high speed, for about 20 miles,
then statred the miss again,  this time, couldn't make it go over
60mph.   Got to my destination,  200miles, then 5 hours later left to
go back home.  The car ran fine the whole trip except for a couple time
i felt a faint miss.   Not a sign of an injector pump going is it?
Will replace fuel filters first, but they are not that old.  I have put
near 30k on this car since a rebuild of the injector pump.   I
appreciate all the help you guys give me.  -gar

I would run a bottle of Techron through it. Sounds like you may have
gotten some bad fuel to me.

Fuel starvation, suspect the filters and remember there's pick-up screen
inside the tank. Could also be a plugged fuel tank vent that, after some
long driving, creates enough vacuum inside the tank to impede the fuel flow.

boy, this sounds like my prob tg.  it runs soooooo good for 30 or so
miles or so.  then a bit of missing.  visual of the plastic filter
looks good.  fuel seems to be flowing freely.  now I need to know how
to get at the tank screen and test the tank vent.   glad to hear none
of you suggest the injection pump.  thanks -gar

I recall that diesel sometime have algae build up in the tank... the
solution is to put some diesel algaecide in the tank. The symptom was
everything works fine until about 15 minutes later, then something funky
starts to happen.

I would change the fuel filter and prefilter if you have one after the
algaecide.
Richard Sexton - 29 Sep 2006 16:14 GMT
Sounds like fuiel starvation. Really - check the fuel filters. If
they're full of black crud and you're in a warm climate you have algae.
