Does anyone have experience putting a non-MB engine into a 300E? I've
got a friend whose 300e engine is busted but doesn't want to pay for a
replacement MB engine. Was thinking about putting an American or
Japanese engine instead. Has anyone on the board done this with the
124s?

Thx.

A very skilled, IMHO, mechanic posted a GMC V-6 into 123 chassis
conversion about five years ago. It took him 9 months to a year and
included enlarging the transmission tunnel, making new motor supports,
changing the drive shaft and inventing a new throttle linkage. He was
very pleased with the result. It wasn't $ expensive but was a large time
investment.

Suggest you find a used motor and install like for like.

It's a nightmare. Things like heat, odo, speedo, etc will never work
right without major mods. Look on craigslist for a wreck.
