Just replaced the FPR on a 91 420SEL. It's waz located on the firewall,
under the hood, behind the engine. It had two very similar looking 1
inch by 3 inch units located next to each other, but the pin pattern
was different. Wasn't cheap either!
What's the fuel system doing?
The SEL's owner had a shop suggest changing both fuel pumps, the relay,
the sieve and fuel fliter ($1000+) cause it was dying/stumbling The
fuel filter had a very fine black powder in the gas I dumped out
(filtered it thru a couple of coffee filters). Didn't waste money on
the pumps and the car has been running fine ever since. {finger's
crossed}...Ken

thanks ken, its an intermittant problem whereby it starts and runs for
1 or 2 seconds then cuts out.i will look at your suggestions now and
get back to you .i live in zimbabwe so you can bet it will be a lot
more expensive and probably un attainable!!!!! LYNNE

I'd suggest somehow getting a fuel pressure test and check if the
pressure's correct..that would eliminate the FPR
Easier....listen for the whirring noise of the fuel pump(s) when the
car's running.
The 420SEL I was working on apparently had a plugged up fuel filter,
but changed the FPR also

thanks for all your replies. i have finally found the FPR in the
passenger foot well behind the bulkhead or as you call it firewall. i
removed it and cleaned the connections but feel sure it needs
replacing. will hope it lasts until i can get to the real world and buy
a new one!!!!! lynne
