May you put Wec Lec (it's a product that claims to stop oil leaks) in a A
serie's ? We used it on other cars but never in my mini and now with 19 000
km (I think that must be around 14 000 miles) it started to leak (maybe it's
her age (from 1996) that makes her drop a tear. I don't like the idea that I
have to get the engine out for all new gaskets. It leaks bewteen the gearbox
and the bar to the shift stick.

you dont need to remove the engine. its a simple "O" ring  that you need to
replace. Where the gear remote passes into the back of the gear box. To
replace you carefully drive out the gudgeon pin which holds the yoke (joiner
between the remote shaft and the input) out and slide of the shaft. You can
drift the new seal in over the top pf the old one using a suitably sized
socket, or remove the old one and fit one of the new style "O" ring oil
seals which you can now buy through the likes of Mini Spares etc

A leak like tim suggests is a really inexpensive thing to put right. the
part number from mini spares is MSSK050 and its under ?4.
you are of course forgetting one thing - minis are meant to leak -
if you have a mini that doesnt leak you are either
1) very lucky
2) your mini has one of them blue and white propellor badges on it.

I have 6 real Minis, none with ugly blue and white badges, and none of them
leak...its a thing called maintenance...

so YA YA to you ;-)

Thanks for the reply. I understand that this one is easy to repair but the
other ones are become old too and that's why I would like to put that
product in my oil.
I will fix it on the normal way but I think theirs a small leak between the
box and the pot joint too. I think that most of the gaskets are just (I
don't know the exact word for it becoming too old and break in bit's because
their has become hard (like coming glas).
For me it's not a real problem that he leaks a bit but I prefer (and
certanly my parents) like's a clean garage floor.

There was a thread a few weeks ago about oil in mini's.

If that were anything to go by, I wouldn't dare put any 'stop leak' stuff
in a Mini - not unless I was trying to sabotage myself toward a new gearbox
:)

If you want a clean garage floor may I recommend a cheap baking tray and
some sawdust/sand :)

That's what I tought too that it want work for a mini engine.
I think that I will put just a new gasket and see what it gives. Afcours a
drip tray could be a solution too but prefer a none dripper first. If your on
the floor of others they are not prepared for my oil ;-)
