Is it gold plated or is the $10K a joke?

They fetch that here - half way down this page, an ordinary Clubman at
NZ$10k [a lot less in GBP or US$]: http://classiccarfair.com/sold2.htm
On the other hand, scruffs can be had for a few beers. Condition and
history make the difference, plus a great bunch of punters.

Man.. they so don't.
Given that only last week some REAL mk1 & 2 Coopers went for 12-16,000$nz
( yes I'm in NZ too ) there is no way a clubman is worth that amount of
money.
It might have some nice bits, but it's a Mini - and money poured in doesn't
equal 'worth' :)

Mind you, if it's reg'ed and waranted it's worth 1000$ at least. :p

its simple Splam, if that what the guy wants and thats what someone wants to
pay then its worth that much money, the market will always decide. You can
always bring the price down , but you can never put the price up.

A car which has been subject to a full strip and rebuild is going to owe you
a minimum of 25K if its done properly. I know Ive done 1 in the last 6 years
and Im currently working on my 2nd one now. If I was looking for a mint,
concours standard car and was wanting to purchase one I'd consider 10K to be
cheap. How ever my pleasure is derived from the doing....and then ownership.
For others with out the skill or desire 10K is cheap to get their hands on a
nice Mini.

A roughy Clubman GT, starts at about 2K these days (IE Runnner that needs
work) a good tidy example, say 3-4 owners 100km+, maybe need some rust spots
done and a good cleaning to make it presentably will go for the 4-41/2
bracket. Localy here in the Manawatu a 1 owner GT with genuine 38K on the
click sold for 7500K, and it was mint, hand books and service books all
complete. Mind you to keep it to that value it would need a careful owner
who kept up the maintenace and kept down the miles.I beleive if the seller
had held out they would have got more, as I know there where about 4 other
parties wanting the car and 1 would have paid more.

As to real MK1 & 2 Coopers going for 12-16K, how real was real? There are
cars doing the rounds in NZ, and Im sorry to say in the rest of the world,
which are represented as being genuine Cooper or Cooper S, which Im sorry to
say are about as genuine as an Alchermists Gold from Lead properstion. A
genuine, matching numbers original MK1 Cooper 998 or 997 in pristine
condition has got to be worth minimum 20K+, again the market prevails, an S,
well sky can be the limit, a 970 or 1071 S in pristine condition is worth I
would hazard a minimum of 35K+++ and a pristine 1275 S has got to be in the
30K+ bracket. The market value of these cars is today a International value,
this is why so many are heading off shore to the States etc. I know of an
American who has just bought a MK2 Aussie S for $12500NZD, and it was rough,
had it totaly restored in NZ and shipped to him in the States. The car owes
him $55,000NZD, plus shipping etc...and its not a genuine car..its a Mini K
1100 shell with S parts added and chassis plate attached.

Anyway, thats my 2pence worth.

Here's a replica, not pretending to be anything else:
http://classiccarfair.com/redminicooperreplica.htm

A chap in Akaroa I met a few months ago had just finished a 1275S and
said it owed him NZ$35k to do up.

I got a 1275S many years ago for $1200 in good order.
Cheers

Exactly - as as it's my duty to whinge about all things I don't like, I
made some noise! :)

Anyhow, out to the garage, I've got some subframes that need removing
before the respray next weekend.
