Are any of the 5 speed gearboxes still available in built up/component
form? Does anyone have details - couldn't find a listing anymore on
MiniSport site, and Jack Knight's site says the helical 5 speed box is
no longer available.

...because you can change the final drive and make 5th gear longer.

I've just found a Mini Spares review link which seems to suggests the
Mini Sport unit is weaker than the Mini Spares version. Checking their
respective sites it doesn't look like Mini Sport version is still
available (the mini spares unit is around £1600 + VAT).

Any general usage/wear views [of either box] along with any
idiosyncrasies from anyone who has one would be interestiing to hear

For some time now Mini Spares has been running this statement with
their Evolution 5-Speed Box ads.

"Mini Spares announce that they have for the last few years had no
connection with the current Tran-X brand. Our development of the
Evolution brand of quality performance parts retains all our original
ideas, drawings and previous experience coupled with Rover power train
tooling to manufacture our speed gears utilising our exclusive
moly-coating application. We are still the market leaders! Don't get
caught!!!"

Does anyone know what it means other than that the current Mini Spares
5-Speed is not a Tran-X box?

Cheers,

Kelley
