Hi, looked at a MK3 english Cooper s today, a rare car in Australia, mean't
to be a 73 model, has twin tanks clubman taillights, no overiders/nerf bars,
140 kph speedo. Has a morris 1100 S type engine with no cam plates & rubber
uni joints. Are all these things right??? If not what should it have?????

Sydney Australia, in the freezing winter, gets to 7 degrees at night.

Bit of a tricky one that, australian models seem to have gone on past the
UK's Cooper S cutoff point maybe of 1972?
Does it have internal or external door hinges?
Does the door window have a small window that is hinged and a large one that
winds up and down?
I would have thought though the motor should have been 1275cc with twin
carbs of a factory fitted webber....
The rubber uni joints sound right.

its not an S, or probably even a Cooper. Send me some photos and chassi
engine numbers if you like and I'll check it against my records books
Last official build date on an S was 1971, some sneaked through as a 1972.
All had a 1275 engine and later style rectangular tail lights etc. Sounds
like another example of a paper car that no longer, or possibly never
existed.
Ive seen 100's in my time.

What Colour was the car. there was one around here that was green that
was a clubman with a round front put on it. Sounds like that one.

1. British Mk3 Cooper S were only made between '69 and '71 with '72
registrations being very much an exception
2. Twin tanks and Clubman rear lights would be correct
3. Some British Mk3 Cooper S cars came with overiders/nerf bars and some
didn't
4. A British Mk3 Cooper S engine *should* have tappet/cam plates, although
some people claim that some of the very last had Italian Innocenti Cooper
1300 blocks without them.
5. A British Mk3 Cooper S would have solid Hardy Spicer uni joints.
So given facts 1. and especially 5. I'd say its a fake.
