Hi,

I've just bought a 1985 Mini City and I've got a bit of a problem with
the steering...

When you turn the wheel there is a creaking sound and it pulls
slightly to the left. Also, the steering seems very heavy (heavier
than my previous minis)

Has anyone got any ideas?

how wide is your rubber 4" 5" 6" 7"
as the wider the better grip but steering gets heaver

The tyres are 12x6 on Minilites and the tyre pressures are spot on...

You mean the wheels are 6" wide?
Wider wheels make the steering feel heavier, especially if the offset is
lacking.
Std is 4.5"
Do they stick out past standard arches?

Try jacking the front uop and see what the steering feels like. It
should be smooth and very light. If it feels tight or crunchy, there's
probably something wrong with the rack or with the column.

Often when a steering column drop bracket is install the steering rack
isn't rotated to bring it into alignment. This causes the steering to
be heavy and it can start to creak after some time.

The pull to the left may be from drag in the steering or it could be a
brake problem. A little more description would help here.

Hi,
Jack it up,,
disconnect the track rods from the hubs,
turn the hubs left and right, by hand,
also turn the steering wheel left and right,
This should narrow down the search area, or even pinpoint the fault,
