Can anyone tell me where the inline fuse for the foglight lives ?
I've chased the wiring under the dash and then through (most) of the
engine bay but I can't seem to find it anywhere

Any help appreciated
TIA

On my 1988 998 it is one of the in line fuses. They are hidden by the
airfilter box. Think its a blue wire in and a blue with an orange tracer
coming out.

Nice one, Thanks Dave I'll pull that apart tomorrow

Bang on right Dave. Turns out the wire had rotted through fromn the fuse
holder and broken off. Now I've got the fog light warning lamp working
but no foglight still.
I'll buzz through the circuit with a multi meter and probably end up
rewiring the comeplete circuit.
Thanks Dave

Check for corrosion where -ve wire connects to the reflector in the lamp
unit. Where the lamp unit sits it seems especially subject to corrosion.

Thanks Drew, I checked that when I checked the bulb, both contacts are
clean as the proverbial whistle (I know, it surprised me too) ! The fuse
holder had a broken wire going into that so I repaired it but still no
luck. So I've just rewired half the circuit before it got dark, still no
joy so I'll do the rest this weekend.
Thanks again for all the help

Ok, check the connections where the main loom joins to the rear loom
(near the wiper motor) and where the little lamp unit loom join the rear
loom (either just below the boot hinge panel or behind the fuel tank)
also check for chaffing where they go through the boot floor and the
rear valence.

but if you finish the re-wire this is completely academic ;-)

Okee Dokee I'll check where the looms join before I do anything else (it
could save me ages routing wires !!) I've already checked where the
wires pass through the boot floor and behind the fuel tank (should have
mentioned that :s )
Thanks again for all your help Drew
I'll let you know how it goes

Cheers

Hi,

Before you spend hours chasing wires I've had several problems with mini
fogs on different cars.  In my humble experience it's usually the switch
which is at fault and the warning light doesn't always prove the rest of the
switch is working.  Check it several times with a multimeter before carrying
on.  Sorry if that sounds a bit patronising but something that can be
intermittent like that is easily overlooked as I've found to my own peril.

Finally sorted it.
Turns out that 'once upon a time' someone had problems with the wiring
between the boot and the lamp so they cut the wires, twisted them
together and wrapped them with insulating tape (I'm sure we're all
guilty of this at some point) so the wires just rotted out.
So in the end I only had to rewire about 1 foot of it.
Many thanks for all the help and suggestions

Jim
