Spax Adjustables

Can anyone help me with this?

I've recently removed the Spax adjusables from the rear of  Mini. I've
never adjusted them before but I was hoping to. Theres a little screw
at the bottom which rotates as many revolutions as I wish in either
direction, but doesn't seem to make any difference. (I'm testing by
putting the shock in the vice and pushing and pulling. The resistance
seems the same even after several turns in ne direction. The screw
also pushes down and it is located in the centre of another larger
screw. Is it this second screw that I should be adjusting or are the
shocks just screwed.

Finally, if the shocks ae screwed, is there a way of testing if they
are both set to the sae stiffness as that would do me. If I know they
are both on the same setting they would do until a time when I could
afford a new set.

The amplitude and frequency by which you are pushing and pulling are
within normal operating range ? If it is, you should consider taking up
boxing ;-)

Lol, OK point taken.

Would it not be more difficult to move it even at much lower than mornal
operating range.

Is there any other way to tell which setting they are on? The adjusters
just keep going in both directions as many turns as you want.

Without some proper measuring equipment it's hard to notice the
difference.

I'm sorry, but I am not familiar with spax adjustables. Maybe someone else
cares to share his experience ?

They sound like theyve had it.

You should only be able to turn the middle screw about 15 clicks in one
direction (clockwise) to stiffen and vice versa..

Theyre not expensive tho, try e-bay or similar.

Got a full set off there and they only cost ?10.50, and they where in my
local..

With an ordinary shocker you can push and pull it!!  If it doesn't go from
"able to push and pull it" to "not able to push and pull it" it is ferked!!!

Buy a new one.  Just the one.  Problem solved.

Ferked it is. Well, ferked they are, both seem to have a similar problem.

Suddenly found my self living dangerously close to the breadline so it
might have to be a pair of standard shocks unless I can find some of those
?10 ones on eBay!

Cheers guys,

Dave

Spax instructions:

Lowest setting is when adjusted anti clockwise to the stop.(using the
adjuster screw at the bottom!!).
To stiffen, turn clockwise pressing the screw adjuster inwards, and clicking
up the notches to the required position.
There are 15 self locking notches in total, each 90 degrees after the other.
At the bottom end of the adjustment you may not easily feel the notching.

It is recommended to grease the adjuster screw, when you service the car....

... quote from my old Spax box, dated circa 1979!!

I tended to use them adjusted just half way up, to save permanent back
damage....

Good Luck,
JOC
