Apologies if anyone's already answered this - my news server is a bit
slooooowwwwww....

Looking though the google archives suggests it should be about 0.35mm -
0.40mm.

Better to get a dwell meter and set it with that, Haynes has a list of
dizzy serial numbers showing the correct dwell for your dizzy. Pretty
easy job to do, remove cap and arm, hook-up meter according to makers
instructions, get assistant to crank the engine, adjust points back and
forth until it reads what the book says. Do the procedure when the plugs
are out for cleaning/re-gapping/renewing and it puts less strain on the
battery and makes a steadier reading. Officially, Rover didn't publish a
points gap on later cars, only the dwell.
By setting with dwell it takes out any errors in gap setting caused by
the pip and crater that forms on the points face.

Just a wee bit old fashioned, that one looks like it designed for a
Sopwith Camel ;-)  I was thinking more along the lines of...

A bit more expensive, but if you do (or intend to do) your own
maintenance it will pay for itself many times over.

With 4 cyl cars its not critical to set the points by dwell as there is
sufficient time to charge the capacitor. But a dwell meter can give a
good indication of different firing points off the cam. worn, bent shaft
etc.
