HI!!

Just had my engine rebuilt and everything is fine apart from a strange
noise that appears to be coming from the clutch side of the engine.
The noise is cyclic and its frequency increases with engine revs.
The clutch is also new.
Any ideas on what it might be?

Cheers!

Release bearing?

Does it change when you step on the clutch pedal?
guesstimator - 14 Aug 2004 23:36 GMT
No changes when pressing teh clutch relasing it, in gear or neutral.
It seems to diminish after a long run, by long i mean more than 45 min
driving.
It almost sounds like the flywheel or something scraping against a
surface while rotating, like a high spot on a drum. Any ideas before i
take the thing apart?

hiya
could be the idle gear hasnt been set up correctly , if so this can destroy
the case and the gearbox......
who did the rebuild are they mini experts ? if so i would ring them and
start askin questions if not mini experts get a mini man to have a listen.

rebuilt by Withy engineering in bromsgrove and they specialise in mini
engines.Having said that they fitted the fan the wrong way round and
inverted the plarity on the coil and severd the cables to the reverse
light switch.
Some parts of the gearbox where replaced during rebuild. My problem is
that i live in Italy and have now driven the car from the UK all the
way back.

Help!

hopefully its nothing that serious.

Thanks fro the replies!

eee!
They're definately not experts - what an awful job!

I guess take the clutch over off - as per the changing instructions in the
haynes - and see if something looks like it sounds.

Sounds like a real bodge job.

Any one of those mistakes I could just about tolerate from a Mini
specialist with a new apprentice. All three smacks of appalling workmanship.

Noises inside the clutch housing are not minor, trivial or going to go
away by themselves.
