Hi all

Ive got one of these carbs for my 1275 mini and was wondering if any
of you lot had any experience of them?

Mainly I was wondering roughly what size jets I should have for a
MG1275 engine.

Im going to clean it properly before I fit it but, is there any thing
particular I should look for?

cheers

Crikey, I've not heard/seen a Nikki carb for about 20 years.  Can you still
get parts for them?

The were quite popular in the 60s/70s Mini tuning scene but I'd say *any* SU
but a single 1 1/4" has an edge over a Nikki, plus you can also get SU bits
easily.

Unless you're doing some period modding to an old car or 'retro modding to a
newer one then I'd probably not use it.  That said it'd go nice with
something like an alloy Alexander or Barwell head in a 60s Mini.... ;-)

Yes, a real history trip. I remember them being sold in mail-order
catalogues like Kays and Empire, along with Wolfrace slotmag alloys. You
sent them your car details with with order and they sent the carb jetted
to suit.

As chance would have it, I was reading through an old mini world this
morning (every bathroom should have one) and there was an article on Nikki
carbs saying that you can't get parts for them as they are like rocking
horse poo.

Apparently they are worth about 50 quid and don't really give a vast power
increase.  Says you are much better with an 1"3/4 or a pair of SU's.

I daresay thay a single 1 3/4" Would give more power, but the Nikki has
a cool window in the float chamber  ;-)

Hi

What a blast from the past, i put one of these on my Mk 1 Escort 25 years
ago.  Its best feature was the novelty glass sided float chamber (at least
you knew there was fuel if trying to elimante problems).

It made no difference (good or bad) to the performance or economy.
