Hi all,
I have just got a quote for some work to be done on my car and I would like
to know if there are any mini specilist's that can do this work and if
possable, cheaper! It is an L reg Mini mayfair. The price given was a worse
case guesstimate as he could not get it over the ramp to have a look
underneath.

This is what needs doing - Full front end replacing (wings and a-panels) I
believe the front panel is salvagable but I think some rust is leaking
through to the scuttle panel. Also included was filling up any dents or
dinks with lead filler if possable or else the normal filler. Then when this
is all done it will have a full repaint (inc door closes) into a colour of
my choice.  I was quoted worse case at ?3000. On top of that tho, the lump
needs some work. Numbers 2 and 3 cylinder are wearing a bit (you can move
the pistons back and foward slightly) and also the gearbox is starting to
become 'crunchy' I didn't get a quote for that but I do need the lump worked
on as well.

Any ideas on good places to go in the East London area that works mainly on
mini's?

Thanks in advance
Nick

hi
if you are considering paying that price why not buy a new heritage shell
and have a brand new one.

Sounds to expensive, full respray inc removing dents, ?600 to ?900, wings &
a pannels ?500, recon ?1500 or less is more realistic, if the underside is
ok,

Steve.

Depending on exactly what you want from the car it might be better to just
get a second hand engine, clean it up and drop it in. A 1275 cc Metro
engine will be cheap and if it's a 998 and you just want a 998 to replace
it, they are virtually free.

Do you know of any mini repair place in the East London area that will give
a decent quote and a decent job?
Thanks

I can't really recommend anywhere down there, don't know the area too well,
maybe someone else on here can help with this one, I am actually in
Merseyside, I normally do all my own work as quite a few others do on here,
it really cuts down the cost, my cars only go in garages for mots normally,
& the occasional rolling road tune, good thing with older mini is you can
fix anything, not like newer cars that need hooking up to dealer computers,

Hmm...
Really that was what I wanted to do, most of the mechanics I can actually do
on a mini (or else my friend can help me.) The only problem is that I can't
weld and to be honest I really don't want to mess around with the shell or
bodywork etc anyway.
