the gas indicator (thing that tells you how much gas you have left) is not
working, I crossed the wires and it goes to full, this indicates that the
gauge  and wireing is working, where do i go from here? Do i take the tank
off and check the float inside? any suggestions would be great

Hi,
That's the classic test. Your float unit is faulty.
If the fuel level in the tank is well below half, then you can remove the
float unit without taking he tank out.
