I have a 74 Leyland Mini which has the old style brakes.  Is it possible
to upgrade these to discbrakes?

If so, how?

TIA,

Peter.

Yes - easiest way is to buy the kit from Minispares.

You could do the Honda City calipers and self fabricated backplate - but
that's tricky and requires certification.

Was that minispares.com or minispares.co.uk?

They're the same place - its a bit of $$$ to being them in eh? :)

Minimania.com is similar but different ( stuff ships from the US, slightly
pricier for us in NZ).

www.Minisport.com sell built up stub axles, or the parts to build them up
too

As do www.dsn.co.uk and possibly other places.

Not used anyone else.

You could try Laurie @ Swift Autos in Chch - but he'd probably want an arm
and a leg :)

Larry at Swift not Laurie Splam. And as to arm and leg...well you get what
you pay for. IN NZ dollars just the kit to rebuild a set of S brakes, IE
pistons/seals etc etc will set you back the best part of $600-700! (Iknow
becuase I've just done mine) and then the time doing it and new ball
joints/CV's etc etc. These days a fully rebuilt ready to bolt on set of S
discs will set you back at least $2000.00 !!!! Ouch that hurts, when I think
I sold my old car 7 years ago with a 1330 and S discs for only $800.00!!!!,
well thats inflation and scarcity value for you.

The Honda conversion appears to work well however, you'll also find that
Rucard Gillies at Chequered Flag does them, and I think Strongs up in
Auckland (or who ever its is that took over their Mini business) or maybe
Phil Deane? as they do allow them to use them in the Super Mini series
now...or you could go to some dodgy back yard mechanic....less said the
better on that person

:) My bad.

Again, wouldn't want to pay him to do something that stopped me from
crashing into something.
It's not hard to do, just not easy.
