Hi all, I just bought a complete 998 engine with twin SU carbs for only 65
pounds (100 euros). I basically got it because the parts could come in
handy. It seems in good condition, the code is 99H833R, can anyone tell me
what engine it is? the guy said it was a cooper but I don't really trust
him. The exhaust manifold is obviously not an lcb but looks bigger and is a
better shape (no 90? turns) than my 998 mayfair original manifold. Any
clues?

Take the rocker cover off and have a look at the part no cast in - should be
12G295 on a 998 Cooper head.  Taking the head off, the pistons will be flat
top rather than dished.

Thanks! I'll take the head apart and take a good look at everything.
I'm thinking the code may not match the standard ones because it's an
italian engine (I live in italy). Maybe they made different codes for
export minis...

Original 998 Cooper pistons actually have a raised 'D' shape on top, not
simply flat. They are now very difficult to obtain if you ever needed to
replace them.

The engine prefix you give is not a Cooper one. The very last 998 Coopers
had the prefix 99H/xxx/H, but most were 9FA or 9FD.

The number doesn't match anything I have listed for the Cooper.

Because engine numbers are often hard to read I will mention that
there is an A+ 998 with the prefix 99H/B83P .

It's possible that the engine is from a Hornet or Elf or even from a
998 Metro but I don't have numbers for those.

Cheers,

Kelley

I have a listing of a 998 with the numbers 99H/G33. now if the G was to look
a bit like an 8 ....

If that is what it is it should be an A+ unleaded with flat top pistons and
press fit gudgeon pins.
